St. Pius X - A Welcoming Catholic Community

Faith Formation

Dear St. Pius X Families,

It’s that time of year again! Likely you are adding dates for school events, sports practices, music lessons and more to your calendar, shopping for school supplies and hoping you have yourself and your kids set up for a school year that will enrich them and help them grow! At St. Pius X we have a number of opportunities for you to also help them grow as Christ’s disciples – through sacrament, service, prayer, community, and knowledge of the faith.

First and foremost, we would like to invite you to join us for our Sunday liturgies. Regardless of what age your kids are or how often you’ve been able to make it in the past, St. Pius X is making it our goal to make sure you know that you are welcome and we want to worship with you each week!

Secondly, we want to walk with you and your family as you learn about your faith and encounter God in Faith Formation and Sacramental preparation. Below you will find a brief description of our Faith Formation department programs.  Our Faith Formation programs extend from our 3 years of age through adult faith formation. If you have questions about any of these programs, we invite you to join us for Mass and our kickoff event on September 11th. READY TO REGISTER NOW? CLICK HERE!

Faith Formation Kickoff and Registration Event: Our Faith Formation will start this year on Wednesday, September 11th at 5pm for Mass in the Church, followed by a pizza and ice cream social in Kennedy Hall. Here you will be able to register for the upcoming year, meet a few of the catechists, visit the classrooms, sign up to help with the program, and grab a calendar for the year.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (3-5 year old Sunday School): A child’s job is to wonder! Through this Montessori-style Sunday school program, children experience their faith and Church tradition in a sensory-rich environment. They will explore the liturgy, history, parables, and more!

St. Pius X Faith Formation (Grades 1-5): Each Wednesday evening from 6-7pm, children are invited to learn about all aspects of the Catholic faith including, sacraments, liturgy, trinity, saints and more. This traditional model of faith formation is open to all students regardless of school affiliation and students are divided into grade levels so the material is presented in an age-appropriate manner. Begins 9/25.

First Communion and Reconciliation (Typically 2nd grade students): All students wishing to receive the sacraments will go through preparation for the Sacraments through the parish. There will be a brief meeting at 7pm on September 18th  about this special Sacrament year. All public, private, and home school families should plan to attend. Note: Weekly classes are optional for RCS and home school families, but encouraged for all!

Edge (For all 6-8th grade students): Middle schoolers are asking big questions about faith and life and it’s time to leave the classroom to explore what our Church has to offer. New this year, we will be moving away from the classroom for these grades and diving into LifeTeen’s Edge program for middle schoolers. This program will meet middle schoolers wherever they are at in their faith and challenge them to go deeper through activities, prayer, and discussion, and discipleship. This program runs on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm and is open to ALL 6-8th. Seeking adults to help with this program. Begins 9/18.

Confirmation (Typically for 9th and 10th grade students): At 6pm on 9/11, we will have a meeting for all parents and candidates first and second year confirmation candidates. At this meeting we will be discussing changes to the program, requirements, schedules, and more. We are moving to a 12-session year for Confirmation for ALL candidates regardless of what school you attend. Sessions are from 6-7:30pm. If you are unable to attend this first meeting, please contact me to set up an individual meeting.

Adult Education (18+): Adult education will be taking place at the same time as Wednesday evening classes. Please join us for a variety of bible studies, talks, small group discussions and more. Offerings vary throughout the year. Pick up a full calendar of offerings at our kickoff event.

Finally, we are still actively seeking a few great adults to make an impact in our young people’s lives by volunteering as a catechist or small group leader. You don’t need to have all the answers, but you should love young people and be willing to share your faith journey with them. Please prayerfully consider how you can impact the life of the young Church. Contact me at kstinson@piusx.org or 507-288-8238 if you have questions or would like to volunteer.

Thank you all and God bless!
